Orange Chiffon Cake


Orange chiffon cake is a very light cake  made with vegetable oil, eggs,sugar,flour,baking powder,orange juice and orange zest.Instead of butter, vegetable oil is used here as fat ingredient. Here the eggs are separated and beaten before adding into the batter . Chiffon Cake gets it soft texture from vegetable oil and well beaten egg whites.I decorated the  top of the cake with powdered sugar and chocolate sauce but it's totally your wish that you want to decorate the cake or not.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/4 freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1tablespoon grated orange zest( outer skin of 2 medium oranges)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs , whites and yolks separated  at room temperature plus 1 egg white
  • 1/4teaspoon cream of tartar or lemon juice
  • Chocolate sauce-1/4 cup (optional)
  • Powdered sugar-1/4 cup (optional)

Method


Preheat oven at 375 degree F or 180 degree C for 10 minutes

Grease your 9 inch cake pan(I used bundt cake pan) with vegetable oil


Take a mixing bowl, add all purpose flour,baking powder,salt and orange zest,mix and break up any lumps


Make a well in the centre of this flour mixture,add sugar,egg yolks, vanilla essence, vegetable oil and orange juice,beat until well combined and smooth


Take the bowl where you kept 4 egg whites,beat egg whites until foamy,add cream of tartar or lemon juice and mix until soft peak form.



Add this egg whites mixture into the cake batter slowly into two batches,with a rubber spatula or wire whisk just fold the egg whites with the cake batter until well blended,do not overmix otherwise cake will be hard


Pour the cake batter into the cake pan and fill the pans about 2/3 full.After adding cake batter into the pan smoothing the surface with butter knife,hold the pan with two hands and drop the pan three times to remove air bubbles

Bake for 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.Baking times are vary from oven to oven,so keep checking after 30 minutes

Remove from oven,let it  be cool,turn the cake onto a plate, pour chocolate sauce from top and sprinkle some powdered sugar through strainer if you want to decorate it, otherwise leave this step,slice them and enjoy

Tips 
If you want to make this cake without egg then you can use 3/4th cup beaten yoghurt or curd or condensed milk and 3/4teaspoon baking powder and 1/4teaspoon baking soda instead of 1 teaspoon baking powder,but then it will be orange cake not orange Chiffon cake.

Make sure both rods of your oven are on while baking

If you bake in convection microwave,then put the cake pan in lower grilling wrack.

For Orange chiffon cake ,egg whites is a main ingredients..so you have to separate egg yolk and whites and mix into the batter according to the recipe..but for orange cake you can add without separating yolk and whites..or if you wish you can add curd,condensed milk instead of egg for making the cake eggless
