BUTTERY FISH MASALA


I had some fish fillets in the fridge.I wanted to make some rich curry...so made this Buttery Fish Masala.

Buttery Fish Masala  is delicious, thick, creamy gravy. Serve it on a bed of plain boiled rice or with roti,naan or any other Indian bread.

Preparation  Time -10 Minutes 
Cooking Time- 1hour 15 Minutes (Including Marination Time )

INGREDIENTS 

Fish fillets (any fish with firm white flesh) skin removed, cut into 2' cubes-500 gms
Lemon Juice - 1
Vegetable Oil-2tbsp
Chopped onions -2 (grind to make a paste  )
Garlic paste-2tbsp 
Ginger paste2 tsps
Coriander powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2tsp
Red chilly powder - 1tsp
Garam masala powder -1tsp
Chopped tomatoes, ground into a smooth paste in a food processor- 1Tomato
Butter-1tbsp +1tbsp+1tbsp(For Matination+For Cooking  + For Garnishing )
Milk-1/4cup (at room temperature )
Salt to taste
Black pepper powder - 1 / 2 tsp

METHOD 

Mix the fish with 1tbsp melted butter,lime juice, salt and black pepper powder  in a large, non-metallic bowl. Cover and allow to marinate for 1 hour.

Heat the oil and  1tbsp butter  in a deep pan on medium heat.

Add  the fish pieces  from the fish-spice  marination mix and fry till light brown  for both the sides.Remove aside.


Add the  onion paste. Fry till  golden brown and then add the ginger and garlic pastes. Fry for a minute. Stir very gently.

Now add the tomato paste and remaining part of the marination -spice mix to the fish.Add coriander powder, red chilly powder,garam masala powder  and salt...cook until oil gets separated.

Add fish pieces and mix with gravy. Add milk,mix and cook till  the gravy is reduce to half its original volume. Stir very gently every now and then to avoid breaking the fish up.The gravy  should be dry.

Pour 1tbsp  melted butter  over the fish curry. Mix and cover with lid.  Switch off the heat.

Serve with  Steamed  or any rice..or Roti, Naan or any other Indian bread.

    1. Hey dear..sorry for late reply..I used IFB basa fillets..u can use any fish fillets. .

  2. This is another variation without poppy seeds paste.. looks yummy.
